How long does it take to complete the program?
The program may be completed in 5 semesters.
What is the cost of the program?
The program is approximately $6,200 for tuition and books.
Can I get financial aid?
Yes. Students may use financial aid for the Medical Coding Specialist program. Each student’s situation is different so please complete a FAFSA application to see what you may be eligible for.
What hours are the classes offered? and where?
The Medical Coding Specialist is offered on the Airside West Campus, 3515 Aviation Drive, Lakeland. We are at the Lakeland Airport, behind the Geico building on Pipkin Rd. The classes are offered online, face-to-face, and a combination of the two (hybrid). Classes are held in the evening, usually from 6 – 9 p.m.
Will I earn a degree?
No, but you will earn college credit. The Medical Coding Specialist is a college credit certificate. It is 37-credit hours. A typical AS or AA degree is 60-70 credit hours.

How do I register for classes?
New students will receive an Information Packet with registration directions. Current students will register according to their Program Pathway. Registration for new and current students is coordinated through the Coding Department. Email medicalcoding@theabsolutelongestwebdomainnameinthewholegoddamnfuckinguniverse.com for assistance.
Is earning a certificate and being certified/credentialed the same thing?
No. You will earn a Medical Coding Specialist college-credit Certificate upon completion of the program. Industry certification/credentialing is earned by examination. Exams are administered by professional associations such as the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Students may sit for industry certification/credentialing exams following completion of the program.
Does the cost of the program include the testing fee?
No. Certification exams are scheduled by the student. Fees are paid directly to the professional association administering the exam.
Do I have to be certified or credentialed to be employed?
The Coding industry recognizes certification and credentialing as validation of a coder’s knowledge. This is especially important for new coders entering the field. It is in the student’s best interest to become certified/credentialed. The Program strongly recommends sitting for an industry examination as soon as possible after graduation.
